Project 2 - Dream Video

The challenge of this project was to make a dream video with very minimal editing and ZERO post production visual effects. I found that to be a heavy challenge as I am used to relying a little more on pushing the limits of VFX to see what I can do. So instead I tried to push the limits on what I could do with practical effects.

I decided to also practice using my gopro that I hadn't really used much. It gave me a lot of freedom to get shot’s that I would not have been able to get otherwise. I also explored a bit of lighting and darkness to make my video disconcerting in some spots. Then for audio I ended up using a lot of the audio I captured from dropping my gopro in water to give it a sort of otherworldly sound.

For my actual concept, I liked the idea of falling asleep during a car ride and having a crazy confusing dream. I find when I dream often there will be a theme, but there will be heavy inconsistency and things will not make sense. I also like to have a little humor. So I decided to make my dream about rubber duckies. I wanted things to be very incoherent and only showing flashes of things. I also liked this idea of the viewer falling out of the sky and right as the camera hits the ground it switches to underwater. So there is this overall theme of flowing water and ducks, but it jumps around and is purposefully incoherent, because honestly most dreams don’t make sense in retrospect anyways.
