Project 3 - Interdimensional Forms
Project 2 was to design an interdimensional experience exploring the concept of what home was. The requirement was to make a video or a GIF of a model of a home. While many examples we were shown were houses, we were free to design whatever we thought would best represent this concept to us personally. The models were to be designed using both a 3D model (using google Sketchup) and a physical model using whatever materials we could find.

I have had many different homes over the course of my life due to parent divorces and moves. Home is somewhat of a fluid term for me because of that. I would say home is where you find comfort and feel at ease. It may be with certain people or just familiar territory. On this train of thought, I have found it hard to sleep in unfamiliar places. Therefore, I like to think that home is where you can sleep comfortably. Home is where the bed is. Specifically, your own bed where you can lay your burdens down at the end of the day and sleep at ease. I decided to explore this concept in this piece.

My 3d and physical model were based upon this idea that home is a bed. It’s a simple concept to design, albeit my physical sculpting skills are about those of an elementary schooler. I did not like the physical part because of that, but I was happy with the 3d model.

I also wanted to explore the idea of home being in an expansive universe on which we find ourselves on a singular planet called Earth. On the models, I exemplified this by using materials and textures that were space related. At this point I decided to forgo the gif option and create a video. The intent is the video is a dream sequence featuring the two models, albeit the physical one less so. It’s sort of a journey through the universe that ends with our planet Earth. I also really enjoy working on video projects, so this was a nice opportunity to play around with Premiere a bit more to create something a little more exciting. I think it adds more element and depth with what I could do, especially with movement and music coming into play. I also got a chance to do a text keying idea that I was unable to do in project 2.
